Meet our MFT intern
Vanessa Tate, MA, MFTI
When doing therapeutic work with people, I begin with presence. I believe we must know where we are in life - psychically, behaviorally, bodily, and spiritually - before we can decide where we're going. Even though we are often driven by emotions, as humans we work creatively and unconsciously to avoid feeling them. Use of the body and spirit in the present moment often reveal to us truths which the mind cannot.

Life is about evolving out of dissatisfying "ways of being" and adapting to different behaviors which feel better and are deciphered by the client. Using a holistic approach considering all dimensions of a person helps us better understand our relationship to emotions, how we got to be who we are and where we can possibly go from there. Because we are all unique, my therapeutic approach is tailored to the individual. I am influenced by and have strong fondness for the power of Humanistic Psychology, Expressive Arts, Sandplay, Gestalt, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and have specific training in Somatic (Body-orientated) Psychotherapy.
